DDoS Protection

Distributed denial of service

A distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack is one in which a multitude of compromised systems attack a single target, thereby causing denial of service for users of the targeted system. The flood of incoming messages to the target system essentially forces it to shut down, thereby denying service to the system to legitimate users. DDOS attacks can target the infrastructure (L3, 4) layer or the application layer (7). There are many known attack types and hackers are continuously being innovative in creating new techniques.

Fighting DDOS at the Edge is the only effective technique, on-premise appliance based mitigation can be a good first defence but waiting for the attack to reach you and then start fighting it on-premise or even in at your ISP will fill-up the Internet pipes anyway and put you offline. Human interaction during mitigation is also very important to identify and create mitigation rules in real time.
